Career and Wellbeing Coaching

What is Career and Wellbeing Coaching?

Coaching is essentially a non-directive form of development focusing on improving performance and developing an individual.

People often get stuck in a rut doing the same things in the same way and often with the same results.  We often worry and spend our energy in worry and not looking at ways to improve things or support our self-development.  Coaching can be a great tool to get individuals to examine how and why they approach situations and look to see if they are achieving the results they want.  Coaching is delivered 1-2-1 with a qualified coach.

What can Coaching do for me?

  • Coaching can help people find new directions and skills, this can be useful for career transition and post redundancy
  • Reveal people’s capacity to develop new skills and take on increased responsibility
  • Develop their existing skills and talent through supported experimentation, encouraging people to try new ways to do essential tasks and processes
  • Identify where unhelpful attitudes are preventing them from succeeding in their roles
  • Helping them identify behaviours that are blocking their progress
  • Help build confidence
  • Improve wellbeing and stress reduction

For Companies, you may nominate employees to work with a qualified coach to support them in getting ready for promotion, succession planning and talent development.  Additionally, if someone has been off with stress-related illness coaching can support them in their successful return to work.

OACD specialises in career transition, confidence building and overcoming fears in areas such as presentation skills, imposter syndrome and wellbeing coaching. OACD works with companies seeking a referral for staff and also with individuals who self-refer.

What Happens in a Coaching Session?

Coaching is a 1-2-1 talking session.  It can be in person in the workplace or via an online platform. A qualified coach will work with you to examine an area of concern.  So for instance you may be suffering from anxiety from delivering workplace presentations. The coach will work with you to identify what are the root causes of your feelings and share techniques and strategies for you to try to overcome the fears.  OACD uses a cognitive behaviour approach to coaching, this is about concentrating on what is happening now and building for the future not dwelling in the past.  For coaching to be successful you will need to do some self-study and exercises outside of the 1-2-1 session.

How Long is a Coaching Session?

Usually 50 minutes.

How Many Sessions are Needed?

Everyone’s life and work issues are different but usually, 6-12 sessions would be needed dependent on individual circumstances. As CBT has an element of the coachee undertaking exercises to build skills outside the sessions.

Is It Confidential?

The coach works to a code of conduct that means discussions are confidential. If your coaching is part of a company referral the only information passed would be whether sessions have been undertaken not what is disclosed.
